It’s becoming more and more popular for Zoomers (Boomers with a zoom) to maintain an active lifestyle during retirement, with travel, hobbies, and exercise that keep them young at heart. As many couples look to downsize into smaller homes, there’s a huge demand for communities that cater to their unique passions, from art classes and hippie hangouts to partying until dawn. A new documentary, premiering Monday, June 29 at 9pm ET on VisionTV (Canada only), is shedding light on this new trend. Produced by the award-winning Fathom Film Group, 'Adventures in Retirement' follows one couple’s journey to find a community that will allow them to keep living life to the fullest.

Toronto couple Ron and Deb are itching to hit the road to find a community that suits their unique lifestyle. Since Deb’s a painter and Ron’s a musician, finding a community with a rich art and culture scene is crucial to them. From the picturesque artsy town of San Miguel in Mexico, to the lush greenery of the sustainable community of Serenbe in Georgia, to a cruise ship in the Bahamas, Ron and Deb take a wild ride across the continent. They meet retired snowbirds, intrepid travelers, emigrants and a community permanently embarked on a cruise liner. As varied as the places and people they meet may be, they all have one thing in common: they are setting out to have the adventure of a lifetime.

Retiring and living on a cruise ship“If we maintain our health both physically and mentally, aging gives us more freedom! I see it as a time to explore new things, be courageous, curious and playful,” says Debra Rapoport, the NYC-based style icon who is making waves in the world of art and culture in her seventies.

Living on a cruise ship and travel the world in retirementWhile Ron and Deb contemplate the best place to settle down for this next life chapter, there are also concerns about staying connected to their family, especially when their son and daughter-in-law join them on a cruise. If they leave Toronto, is it realistic for their family to come visit? Are they willing to possibly sacrifice some family time with their kid and grandkids at this stage of their lives? With so many exciting opportunities waiting for them, Ron and Deb have a huge decision ahead of them. Which community will allow them to have the adventure they’ve been waiting for?
